The Weardale Museum
The Museum is the focal point for the history and heritage of Weardale and its people. Collections built up over 40 years tell the stories of working, social and domestic life including mining, quarrying, religion and education. Our connection with the adjoining Methodist Chapel, now owned by the Museum, means that we have a large collection of Methodist memorabilia.
Our huge family history resources are unique and contain information on over 73,000 individuals and their interlinked families.
The Museum is run by volunteers and relies on the support of local people and visitors to the Dale to be able to continue.

Parking is behind the museum, but visitors can be dropped off at the door.
The museum is a four room cottage with the upper floor accessed by stairs with a bannister. Access for wheelchair users to the two downstairs rooms is provided from the door by the main road and we can remove furniture to improve the experience. Our upstairs displays including the Weardale Tapestry can be viewed in our large books and on our specially designed iPad displays.
There are a number of chairs sited around the building for visitors to take a rest.
Staff will do all they can to assist those with SEND capabilities and it is helpful if we know beforehand.
