Special iApps C.I.C.

We are a social enterprise who develop educational apps for children with special educational needs, including autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, hearing impairment and other learning disabilities.

Our apps allow children to develop their speech, pronunciation, word recognition, numeracy skills, fine motor skills and social skills.

The collection of apps offer a visual-based approach to help children from the first stages of learning about words, numbers, colours, shapes and emotions. The apps are different because they are uncluttered, don't have adverts or tracking, and can be configured and personalised to suit any child.

The flagship app, Special Words, is being used in over 100 countries worldwide and to date has been translated into 26 apps. This app has been developed alongside educators and speech therapists in order to achieve a collection of beneficial activities that have an impact on children's educational and social development.

Special Words encourages speaking with clarity, increasing sight word vocabulary, developing hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. You are able to fully personalise the words, photos and audio, as well as adding your own word lists which allow you to concentrate on an area of a child's learning and development. Special iApps have since developed Special Words Pro, an app aimed at parents, therapists and teachers who are looking to do more with their children. The app offers you everything from the standard edition but also printing, assessment sheets, dual control and an ever growing library of free curriculum resources.

Special Stories, has been used widely by teachers, social workers, portage workers and parent/carers to communicate more clearly with children who struggle to express themselves verbally (as can often be found in children with Down Syndrome, Autism and speech impediments) when developing home school communication and Educational Health Care Plans. The app makes it easy to create personalised stories for a range of uses, be that home school communication, step-by-step guides, capturing a day out, for transitioning and even homework.

Special iApps support parent/carers, teachers, occupational health professionals and anyone who knows a young person who could benefit from extra educational help.

The apps are based on Early Years content and the EYFS curriculum, but can be easily personalised and adjusted to suit any level of capability and age. The activities within each app encourage interaction and communication, and can be controlled by parents without interruption of the task at hand.

The apps are directly downloadable onto Apple and Android devices.
