Durham County Badger Group

We conserve and protect badgers in their natural habitat between the Tyne and the Tees, to the Cumbrian border.

We:

  • campaign for improved legal protection for badgers and their habitat.
  • record the distribution and status of badgers and their setts and holds a comprehensive database.
  • record locations of badger road deaths.
  • monitors setts regularly and record details of activity or disturbance.
  • occasionally strengthen and restore vulnerable setts to protect badgers from further disturbance.
  • deliver talks to a variety of interested groups and participates in Durham Constabulary’s schools programme.
  • assist the Police, RSPCA etc in respect of criminal activity relating to badgers or their setts.
  • provide advice and information to planners and developers.
