Shaw Trust North East Enterprises

The Shaw Trust Enterprise at Seaham is a garden centre set in the heart of Seaham Town not far from Sunderland City. We are a specialist centre, providing vocational training and work experience opportunities to adults with a disability as well as alternative provision for children who are struggling to achieve in a mainstream setting.

We operate as an open to the public garden centre

With clients at the heart of all that we do, we allow them to experience working in a real live work setting that is open to the public. Our aim is to continually nurture and yet challenge our service users to become independent with the aim of supporting them into employment or self employment.

Seeing our fully inclusive community and by buying the hand crafted products that our service users make this ensures that we continually work with our local and regional community and that you have an opportunity to give to our charity in a practical way - seeing the benefits of their work experiences in the true sense.

Our clients come first! We are the best in our class, innovative and act with integrity.

We have a two tier service provision:

  • One is for day care for adults with Learning Disabilities. We work on a one to five staff to service user ratio
  • We also now are offering an Academy service provision which we are taking applications for for younger service users who are fitter and wish to look at either employment or self employment through our Academy route.

Referral and availability notes

Parents who receive PIP on behalf of the individual can make an appointment for an assessment and free taster day with us here at both Seaham and Stockton. We can then assess the suitability of our provision for your relative and explain our day rates.

Social workers, transitions team staff, mental health staff and supported living managers can make referrals to us for potential service users as can other charities that have service users who wish to gain real work experience across retail, customer service, woodwork, grounds maintenance, cookery and craft.

We welcome all and any enquiries for our provision and are happy to chat with anyone who simply wishes to just get to know us informally to fully understand what we offer.

We are not just a garden centre, we are an innovative service provider that offers a whole host of real work and training experiences which can lead to employment for individuals.

Durham County Council's Families Information Service does not promote nor endorse the services advertised on this website. Anyone seeking to use/access such services does so at their own risk and may make all appropriate enquiries about fitness for purpose and suitability to meet their needs.
