Movement Support Team

We aim to improve the wellbeing of children with movement difficulties and help them acheive in schools and educational settings.

We provide training, support and detailed motor co-ordination assessments and intervention programmes for children and young people in schools and educational settings in County Durham.  It is part of the broader SEND and Inclusion Support Team structure of Durham County Council. 

The Team includes educational psychology, advisory teacher and support staff. All staff are experienced practitioners with additional training in the area of movement and co-ordination.

We work with children and young people between the age of 2 and 19 in schools and other educational settings who have dome delays or difficulties in the areas of movement and co-ordination.

The service activity includes the following:

  • Provide detailed motor skills assessments of children and young people referred for intervention.
  • Devise intervention programmes to be delivered through an adult working on a daily basis with the identified child or young person.
  • Update and monitor the programmes of individual children and young people.
  • Provide information regarding the success of intervention.
  • Contribute to assessments of special educational need as appropriate.
  • Offer training in the implementation and delivery of programmes.
