Our service works hard to support our customers  to work out what they want out of their lives and the journey that is required to enable them to reach their full potential.

We are committed to empowering customers and ensuring that they have respect, dignity, independence, choice and control over their own lives.

Towers House accommodation consists of 12 self-contained flats, all with their own separate kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and living room.  In addition to this there is also a communal living room, training room and office space within the building.

Customers are issued with an Assured Shorthold tenancy.  In the case of under 18’s an Equitable Tenancy will be issued, devolving to an Assured Shorthold tenancy following the tenant’s 18th birthday.

As the service is classified as short term the length of stay at Towers House will be 12 months (reviewed at 9) with move on into the local community following this.

We also have an ‘assessment unit’ specifically for those young people (16-25) whose history clearly demonstrates their lack of skills (this could include debt, arrears, no settled accommodation / previous eviction, history of poor engagement with other support agencies) to maintain independent living and where a period of assessment will be used to inform the decision to accept / refuse the referral. The assessment unit will offer accommodation for up to 8 weeks and will involve the completion of the Home Achievement Programme in either tenancy awareness/ managing and acquiring a tenancy.  A Licence Agreement will be issued while residing in this unit.

The Commissioning Section of Durham County Council Adult and Health Services funds the support element of our service provision.  Tenants are responsible for all other charges, including rent, water rates, council tax and certain housing service charges.
