How do you identify Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)?

How does the setting/school/college know if children/young people need extra help and what should I do if I think my child/young person may have special educational needs?

Initially, teachers would discuss their concerns with the SENCO if they believe that a child may require additional help. Alternatively, parents are able to contact us if they have concerns regarding their child. We would then work alongside parents to decide what extra support would be appropriate and whether external support is required.

How will you support my child with their special educational needs and disability?

How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person?

When a need is identified, a range of strategies are put into place to support the child. These strategies are shared with parents. These strategies include giving additional adult support to pupils in class, providing intervention sessions and also providing resources to aid learning. In some cases support from outside agencies, such as Speech and Language Therapy or Educational Psychology, is used to ensure all SEND needs are met.

How will you make sure my child's education meet their needs?

How will the curriculum be matched to my child's young person's needs?

We follow a creative curriculum. This allows us to provide an exciting and informatitve curriculum which meets the needs of all pupils. All pupils are set tasks which are achievable whilst still providing challenge.

How will we know my child is progressing?

How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support my child's/young person's learning?

It is essential that there is a good relationship between home and school. School based targets are shared and reviewed with parents during regular parent meetings and review meetings. This gives us the opportunity to keep everyone involved and up to date with what is going on.

What specialist services and expertise is available at or accessed by the staff?

What specialist services and expertise are available at or accessed by the setting/school/college?

We access all levels of services within the council such as Educational Psychology, Speech and Language, ASD team and counselling services.
