Bendrigg Trust
We are a residential activity centre located in beautiful countryside between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. We are one of few centres in the UK running holidays and residential courses specifically for people with special needs.
Set in 15 acres of grounds, Bendrigg Lodge has been extensively refurbished to extend the facilities available for people with more severe disabilities.
Groups and individuals come to the centre for a week or weekend, from schools and colleges for children with special needs, homes, clubs, hospitals, community groups and disability organisations.
People of all ages and abilities can take part in activities they have never contemplated before. Our programmes are tailor-made for each group and a wide variety of activities can be incorporated.
Acorn House is Bendrigg’s newest accommodation block. This completely accessible accommodation unit is separate from the main Lodge and offers 24-beds over 10 en-suite rooms. The building includes two accommodation ‘wings’, a central lounge, kitchen and dining area as well as a games room and can cater for all abilities.
Activities may include:
- climbing
- abseiling
- canoeing
- caving
- sailing
- orienteering
Our Kinross Building contains an indoor state of the art climbing wall, which we believe is the best indoor climbing facility in the UK for people with a disability.
The hall also includes:
- a fully computerised sensory room
- an under-floor caving system, including a section that is wheelchair accessible
- a large games area and a lounge for visiting groups, which can also be used as a reception area for day visitors and as conference/classroom facilities
Other onsite activities include:
- sensory swing
- archery
- zip wire
- tube slide
- ropes course
- bikes
- bushcraft
