Beamish Museum
Beamish is a world famous open air museum which tells the story of life in North East England during the 1820s, 1900s and 1940s.
Experience amazing sights, sounds, smells and delicious tastes as the past comes to life at Beamish. This multi-award winning museum is unique – objects aren’t locked away in glass cases, this really is hands-on history.
Ride a steam train through the Georgian landscape, explore the beautiful terraced gardens of Pockerley Old Hall and visit the museum’s newest attraction – Joe the Quilter’s cottage. Stroll down the cobbled street, treat yourself to delicious bread and cakes at Herron’s Bakery and find out who lives in Ravensworth Terrace in The 1900s Town.
Learn your times tables in the school, meet the pit ponies and call into the cottages to see how miners and their families lived in The 1900s Pit Village. Take a trip underground with a guided tour of our drift mine. Experience life on the Home Front during the Second World War at The 1940s Farm.
With the Beamish Unlimited Pass you can pay just once and visit for a whole year for free. Please check the Beamish website for information about the activities and events on offer.
