Darlington Association on Disability - Advocacy Service
Advocates take action to help people say what they want, secure their rights, represent their interests and obtain the services they need. Darlington Association on Disability (DAD)’s Advocacy Project is free and independent.
We can support people who are:
- living in Darlington and Tees Valley and have been assessed to use or need to use adult social care services and have difficulty in putting their views across to the council. Includes carers. This is known as general advocacy.
- are subject to the Mental Health Act 1983, revised 2007. This is known Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA).
- authorised to be deprived of their liberty under the Mental Capacity Act 2005. This is known as Relevant Person's Representative (RPR).
We are all experienced and trained in good advocacy practice and we are totally independent. Our job is not to tell someone what to do or what to say. Our job is to make sure that the person’s voice is heard when decisions are made about their health or social care.
