Shildon Alive! Community hub, foodbank and community gardens

At Shildon Alive you can make a contribution to one of our projects, share your skills and experience, learn new skills and make friends. We bring people together, promote health and wellbeing, support you as you grow and reach your full potential as part of the community.

We now operate a community fridge. This is for everyone to use and helps reduce food waste. Our volunteers collect food waste from the local supermarkets and businesses, and everyone is welcome to come in to Shildon Alive and either take from or donate to the fridge. Since we opened it in Nov 2017, we have saved 0.65 tonnes of food waste.

We will offer you help and advice in a crisis. We can offer you a rewarding volunteering opportunity and support you in that role as you gain in confidence and develop new skills. We also offer a friendly ear and advocacy service as you shape your own life, the lives of others around you and the wider community.

Join the credit union, an opportunity to save and to borrow with great interest rates. Time to say goodbye to pay day loans and loan sharks.

Be referred to our food bank for up to three days of food, enough to show a crisis the door.

Get involved in our two community gardens, learn new skills, grow your own food, and make new friends.

Introduce your children to growing with ‘Kids in the Garden’ - a weekly club of fun, and learning.

Find out about other community projects and become part of something that really is making a difference.
