ClearVision Project
We are a postal lending library of children's picture books with the braille text interleaved on clear plastic sheets. Over 14,000 books are available, fiction and non-fiction, and the books are ideal for sharing with sighted friends and family. We cover the whole of the UK and Ireland.
Our books are chosen from popular fiction and national curriculum related information books. We have books to suit every level of reading experience and different approaches to learning Braille.
We also have a large collection of tactile picture books. These are specially made picture books with realistic textures, where all the ilustrations are designed to be explored by touch. They're great for building up touch skills and enjoying pictures, and are used by children who read large print books but don't have enough sight to enjoy an illustration, and by children with learning disabilities and sight impairment, as well as by children building up thier touch skills for learning braille. These books can be borrowed by schools, nurseries, colleges and Sensory Support Services, so if you'd like your child/young person to access these, please ask their education provider or Sensory Service to contact us.
Membership is free for families. Families are initially sent six books and can change three at a time as often as they like.
Schools, public libraries and Sensory Support Services can also join. They pay £60 per year, and can borrow up to 20 books at a time,
All books are changed free using the "Articles for the Blind" freepost service.
