Local Offer

Local Offer description

We aim to provide a fully inclusive education for all the children in our care. We are a small school who can cater for children with a wide variety of Special Educational Needs. Our smallness adds to our uniqueness and allows us to personalise learning for children, adapting and meeting every child's needs. In addition to this, we can cater for children with physical disabilities and have an accessible toilet and changing facilities.

Staff are highly trained and willingly to update their knowledge and understanding further when needed. Additionally, all staff members are first aid trained, with at least half of our staff specialising in paediatric first aid.

How do you identify Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)?

How does the setting/school/college know if children/young people need extra help and what should I do if I think my child/young person may have special educational needs?

Please speak to Mrs Karen Whitaker, SENCO. We would also like to invite you to look around our school and speak to staff members.

How will you support my child with their special educational needs and disability?

How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person?

Staff are fully trained to meet the needs of any child. We actively gain and update our information and knowledge about specific needs and will adapt/add resources and teaching and learning strategies to meet these needs.

How will you make sure my child's education meet their needs?

How will the curriculum be matched to my child's young person's needs?

Staff will assess the current level of learning for the child/young person and will match the curriculum accordingly.

How will we know my child is progressing?

How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support my child's/young person's learning?

Regular communication will be made with parents/carers to keep them informed of progress and any other relevant information which may be of interest. It is important that this is a two-way communication and school and homework together to help support the child/young person.

How will you support my child's overall wellbeing?

What support will there be for my child's/young person's overall wellbeing?

This school prides itself upon the support and guidance given to all pupils. The same high level of support will be adopted for any child/young person attending this school, whatever their need.

What specialist services and expertise is available at or accessed by the staff?

What specialist services and expertise are available at or accessed by the setting/school/college?

The school can access services provided by the local authority and local Health Care service.

How are staff trained regarding SEND?

What training are the staff supporting children and young people with SEND have had or are having?

Staff attend specific training as and when a need arises. All staff took part in training to support a child with autism when a need arose.

What activities outside the classroom will there be?

How will my child/young person be included in activities outside this classroom including school trips?

The school aims to include all children/young people in its planned activities and help and support will be provided to ensure the school does it's best to enable children with SEND to be included in school visits and trips.

How will you support my child's needs?

How accessible is the setting/school/college environment?

The school has a main accessible ramp to the main door. The school is sited on one level. There are no steps inside the school building. There is a ramp access to the Early Years area and to the playground. The school slopes onto the main playing field but access can be made with care.

What is available to help my child with their education?

How are the setting's/school's/college's resources allocated and matched to children's/young people's special educational needs?

Resources are purchased as required as a need arises. This is done in consultation with parents and other agencies.

What support can I expect for my child?

How is the decision made about what type and how much support my child/young person will receive?

The decision about how much and type of support for SEND children is made collectively with advice from outside agencies, parents and staff in school.

How will I be involved in my child's education?

How are parents involved in the setting/school/college? How can I be involved?

The school already has many avenues of communication with parents. There are also opportunities for parents to be involved in their child's learning, helping in school and also being part of a social network of the school 'Friends of Ingleton Primary School'.

My child is going to be starting or leaving soon, how will you help them?

How will the setting/school/college prepare and support my child/young person to join the setting/school/college or the next stage of education and life?

Transition to a child's next school is carefully planned with parents. The school has excellent relationships with the close secondary schools and a planned programme of transition already takes place. If a need arises then specialist staff from the secondary school will obtain more information about a SEND pupil and will make specialist arrangements to meet needs at the secondary school. Parents and children/young people are included in all communications and meetings.
