We are a private day nursery situated in Annfield Plain, Stanley. We cater for children aged between 3 months - 11 years of age across a broad range of sessions. We offer high standards of care and education to all children within our care.

Our team are passionate about the job that they do and display fantastic bonds with the children and families who access our setting. We aim to ensure all of our children are motivated, independent learners who thrive in their development.

We offer inclusive practices for all service users and children who access our provision. Staff receive training in all areas of development. Multi-agency professionals attend our setting to work alongside the team. This ensures they have up-to-date training and knowledge where needed, to provide high levels of SEND support to children and families who access our setting.

We have a wide knowledge and understanding of working with children who have additional needs across a broad spectrum. Our staff have number of years of experience in this area.

We are based on one level which can be accessed by wheelchairs. We have wide doors which can be easily adapted to open further. We offer easy access bathrooms for children with low level sinks and toilets, an adult toilet with support bar, and access to the whole unit and garden areas with ramps where needed.

Parents, families and children will receive friendly, helpful and caring support and advice regarding any disability and needs they or their children may have. How does the early year's provision identify and assess children with special educational needs and disabilities?

How does the early year's provision identify and assess children with special educational needs and disabilities?

All children are closely observed and monitored throughout play and interactions. We review the children's development and needs termly and document developmental progress (Flying from the Start and EYFS).

This helps early identification of areas where we may need to provide early intervention to offer further support to all children. Support is provided for children within our care who are on the Autism spectrum, have Cerebral Palsy, Sensory Development and Global Development Delay.

We work within the graduated approach, enabling us to assess individual children's needs and developments, plan for these, carry out steps to aid in children's development and review all outcomes. We liaise with parents/carers daily and ensure that we listen to their concerns with regards to their child. We then work with and support parents/carers in contacting the relevant multi-agency professionals to offer further support and access to information.

How will the curriculum be matched to meet children's developmental needs?

How will the curriculum be matched to meet children's developmental needs?

Children’s needs are taken into account at all stages of each process. When planning for children’s individual needs Flying from the Start Data, planning, observations and discussions with parents/carers, professionals and practitioners are reviewed.

We provide an enriched curriculum and learning environment, tailor made for individual children’s needs which enable them to be treated equally and join in with all experiences alongside peers.

All children are encouraged, challenged and supported to progress in their overall holistic development. We hold discussions with parents/carers, multi-agency professionals and other practitioners to ensure that we are providing the best activities and experiences for their child that are safe, secure and aids in their development.

What training have the staff supporting children with SEND had, or are having?

What training have the staff supporting children with SEND had, or are having?

Our staff are part of continuous professional development. This ensures that they continue to remain up-to-date.

The team benefits from regular updates from the area Senco in County Durham as well as the manager of the setting, who is our named Senco.

Our Senco at Kidz Village also attends regular Senco business meetings, ensuring that their knowledge is updated termly. This is then delivered back to the staff team, further updating their knowledge.

The team attend regular training sessions and in-house training from the Manager.  Staff work in close partnership with parents/carers and multi-agency professionals for the child, to enable them to fully understand each child’s needs and conditions.

How accessible is the early years setting environment? (indoors/outdoors)

How accessible is the early years setting environment? (indoors/outdoors)

We are located on an easy to access road and are based in a single level unit. There is ample space for access vehicles to park and unload safely at the front of the property.

Working on a single level ensures easy access throughout the building. We offer wide door access, with the doors being adjustable to open further if necessary, for wheelchair access.

There is a ramp to the garden area for anyone not able to access the garden by the low level step.

Changing facilities are located within the rooms for nappy changing and can be provided to access at a height or floor level for safety.

We provide two separate bathrooms with low level sinks and toilets for children to access freely, including a sink at a slightly higher height for those who attend with wheelchair access. There is also toilet access for adults with disabilities, inclusive of support bars.

We offer further support where requested in a number of ways such as guides.

How will the early years provision prepare and support my child(ren's) transition to their next educational establishment?

How will the early years provision prepare and support my child(ren's) transition to their next educational establishment?

Transition visits are provided from the onset to the setting for all children and families. This is continued throughout their time at Kidz Village. All children will undertake numerous transition visits, when they are due to move rooms as they grow. These are carried out alongside their Key Person and independently as they grow in confidence, to enable them to spend quality time with their new Key Person and peers.

We liaise with parents/carers and schools when children are ready to move onto school settings. Schools are invited into our setting to meet the children and staff. Where needed, staff will also attend children’s settling in sessions at the school. Staff will hold meetings with the school either within the nursery setting or at school if preferred, to discuss the child and share in their collated data. Children can be provided with early support of transitions through discussions and photographs of their new environment and the people they will be with to help them to become more familiar with these upcoming changes.
