Pixley Dell Day Nursery

We offer ‘30 hours childcare for working parents’.

We are a 43 place day nursery based on the outskirts of Spennymoor, close to main commuter links. We provide comprehensive education and care for children aged 0-5 years.

Our nursery values families and strives to create a family feel within nursery by creating strong attachments from the start.

Activities follow the children's current interests which allows an atmosphere and environment where high level learning can take place at the child's own pace.

Local Offer

Local Offer description

We are able to offer care and support to children with additional needs.

We understand and follow the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) code of practice and supply an inclusive service to all.

We have wide access into the building for wheelchair users and are open to making any adjustments necessary to ensure your child's needs are fully met.

At present we have children in nursery who have support from the Speech and Language Therapy service. We work hard alongside them to create a language rich environment and activities to enable all children to achieve their full potential.

Please contact us to discuss your child's needs and how we can support your family.

How does the early year's provision identify and assess children with special educational needs and disabilities?

How does the early year's provision identify and assess children with special educational needs and disabilities?

Children's progress is assessed each term and any areas identified as needing extra support are addressed.

We work closely with the Early Years Team and other professionals to support children identified as having SEND through individual support plans and a focus on 'assess, plan, do, review' to ensure progress is kept on track at the child's pace to enable them to reach their full potential.

How will the curriculum be matched to meet children's developmental needs?

How will the curriculum be matched to meet children's developmental needs?

Children's experiences and activities are based on their current interests and are enhanced or simplified to enable all children to learn on a personal basis and at a rate which suites them.

Children's learning is tracked through the EYFS, the curriculum for Early Years and schemas identified. Next steps are planned on an individual basis and further activities are tailored to each child's needs and style of learning.

What specialist services and expertise are available at or accessed by the early years setting?

What specialist services and expertise are available at or accessed by the early years setting?

We have strong partnerships with professionals within the local children's centre, including Health Visitors, the One Point Team and the Equality and Inclusion team.

We have regular visits from our local EDA who can advise on any other services which may be needed and ways to access any extra support needed.

What training have the staff supporting children with SEND had, or are having?

What training have the staff supporting children with SEND had, or are having?

We have a nominated SENCO at the nursery who regularly attends SENCO meetings and training, to ensure an up to date knowledge of SEND and how to implement this in practice.

How accessible is the early years setting environment? (indoors/outdoors)

Our building offers wide access for wheelchairs.

How will the early years provision prepare and support my child(ren's) transition to their next educational establishment?

How will the early years provision prepare and support my child(ren's) transition to their next educational establishment?

We arrange transition meetings with your child's teacher the term before they are due to leave. The teacher visits the setting and also meets with the child to become a familiar face.

We have very good relationships with local schools and carry out activities relating to starting school. We focus on school readiness throughout the child's last year in nursery through activities identified by the local schools as necessary to support children to have a successful transition to their new school.
