Yellow Wellies Day Nursery - Durham

We offer ‘30 hours childcare for working parents’ in partnership with other childcare in our area.

Yellow Wellies day nursery is rated as 'outstanding' from Ofsted. We are a well-established nursery based in a beautiful Victorian house in the heart of Durham City, based in a large garden full of trees and wonder.

We are easy to access, with the A690 nearby and easy walking distance to the train and bus stations. The nursery has 57 places for children from 6 weeks to 8 years old.

Our beautiful premises are filled with carefully selected, wonderful resources which spark children's curiosity, providing them with opportunitities to explore and make whatever their hearts desire. Outdoors, our magical woodland and garden house such wonders as the Gruffalo (he lives here, didn't you know?), an allotment for the children to grow their own fruit and vegetables, a marvellous mud kitchen, a builders' yard, a garden especially for non-walking babies and a super-hill to climb.

Our children and staff love being part of the Yellow Wellies family. We learn together, play together work together and enjoy each other's company. We ensure that every child is confident and ready for school when they leave us - not only with practical skills for school, but wit the emotional security that they need to fly.

We are one two nurseries in a small, family-owned chain of nurseries, owned and led by Kate Jones, Director of Early Education. Both of our nurseriies are rated as outstanding. Kate is qualified to Early Years Professional Status (which is a post-graduate level qualification the equivalent to a qualified teacher in early years), holds her Masters degree in Education and is currently studying for her Doctorate in Early Childhood Education.

Our staff have been with us for a long time, with the odd addition. Most of us are parents ourselves and understand the challenges that working parents face. We understand what our children and their families need and we work exceptionally hard to ensure that they receive this.

We have seasonal menus, will all meals cooked from scratch by our nursery chef. We are able to meet children's individula dietary requirements, be they health, allergy or colutral nees and preferences.

How does the early year's provision identify and assess children with special educational needs and disabilities?

How does the early year's provision identify and assess children with special educational needs and disabilities?

Every child is treated as an individual. We take time and interest to get to know what each child enjoys and what they can do. Working closely with parents and other professionals, we share ideas for supporting children to reach their potential.

Every child is assessed using the Early Years Outcomes or with individual targets.
