Wingate Community Nursery School

We offer ‘30 hours childcare for working parents’. 

We are a Durham County Council Nursery School in Wingate, offering both 15 and 30 hour places to children aged 3-4 years. Our staff are skillful, highly trained educators, who are knowledgeable about how children learn, about child development and care, and have a passionate commitment to our nursery and it’s aims.

We work closely together as an integrated team and look forward to working closely with all our families on their learning journey.

Local Offer description

Our SEN Information Report – which is part of Durham County Council’s Local Offer provides details about how we support children and young people with special educational needs in our school.

The SEN Information Report was reviewed and updated on 7th December 2018. It is updated annually, taking into consideration the views of parents/carers. It is monitored, evaluated and ratified by our governing body, through our SEND governor.

At Wingate Nursery School, we recognise that all pupils are entitled to a quality of provision that will enable them to achieve their potential. We believe in positive intervention, removing barriers to learning, raising expectations and levels of achievement and working in partnership with other agencies in order to provide a positive educational experience for all our pupils including those with a special educational need or disability.

This SEND Information Report should be read alongside the school’s SEND Policy, the Equalities Information and Objectives and the Accessibility Plan, which can all be found in the School Policies Section of our website.

How do you identify Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)?

How does the setting/school/college know if children/young people need extra help and what should I do if I think my child/young person may have special educational needs?

If you are worried or concerned about your child, please speak to your child's key person, or the Headteacher. We can chat through your concerns, talk about support and make a joint decision about next steps

How will you support my child with their special educational needs and disability?

How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person?

All staff working in our school are highly skilled and experienced to support all young children, including those with additional needs.  

How will you make sure my child's education meet their needs?

How will the curriculum be matched to my child's young person's needs?

The curriculum is play based, creative and innovative - and most importantly based on our observations of children's interests and fascinations. We ensure the curriculum is matched to the needs of all children. 

How will we know my child is progressing?

How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support my child's/young person's learning?

You will have daily contact with your child's key person, where you can discuss learning and progress. There will also be opportunities to attend parent's evenings throughout the year, where you can find out about how well they are doing and how best you can support them at home. 

Depending on interest, we are happy to organise workshops for parents to find out more about how young children learn.

Happiness and wellbeing are part of the school's values - and particularly important to us. We believe that if children and staff have high levels of well-being, their levels of involvement will be high and therefore their learning will also be rich.

We currently have two nature based sites as well as our main nursery site. Children visit these sites throughout the whole year and get to learn in nature and experience all of the different seasons. 

What activities outside the classroom will there be?

How will my child/young person be included in activities outside this classroom including school trips?

We have two other school sites. Our cottage and allotment sites, our family groups take up residency on these sites through the year, aswell as use the nature sites we take the children into the local community on a daily basis, exploring woodland and other areas of the village.

Our school is very accessible for all.

This is based on an individual assessment of a child, thier key person will initally complete the assessment and seek any additional support this feel is required.
