Green Lane Nursery and Childcare Centre

We offer ‘30 hours childcare for working parents’.

We are a day nursery, out of school club and holiday scheme located in Barnard Castle, on the site of Green Lane Primary School. We achieved an 'Outstanding' report from Ofsted in October 2014.

Our nursery is run from purpose built rooms within the Primary School. There are separate rooms for each age group, the babies also have a sun-room and their own outdoor area which includes a covered area. Each room has direct access to an enclosed outdoor area, and there's also a separate sensory garden complete with a large stage area and walk-in sandpit.

Lunches are available from the school or parents can provide a packed lunch. We provide a morning snack and an afternoon snack which the children often help to prepare.

Pre-school children are offered the chance to go swimming at the local sports centre.

How does the early year's provision identify and assess children with special educational needs and disabilities?

How does the early year's provision identify and assess children with special educational needs and disabilities?

Each child is allocated a 'Key Person' if this member of staff has any concerns they will observe and assess the child to collect evidence to identify the need. Any concerns will be shared with parents and the setting SENCO.

Support will be put in place to create an education plan, this will ensure the right support is in place for each child. We will work very closely with parents/carers and any other professionals involved. Any training will be given to staff to ensure the child is getting the best support possible.

How will the curriculum be matched to meet children's developmental needs?

How will the curriculum be matched to meet children's developmental needs?

The child's 'Key Person' will create a support plan around the child's needs, interests and next steps. They will then match activities to help promote the skills identified. Small group work may be used to allow the child to explore and enhance their own learning.

Staff will support and observe, these observations will then be used to help build skills and knowledge which will be shared with parents and any specialist outside agencies.

What specialist services and expertise are available at or accessed by the early years setting?

What specialist services and expertise are available at or accessed by the early years setting?

We welcome any involvement from outside agencies and parents alike. Many SEND services are used to get expert advice and reassurance that the nursery plan is challenging and effective.

Our SENCO attends the SEND business meetings on a regular basis to ensure she is up to date with the latest training, which she then passes on to the rest of the staff during staff meetings.

What training have the staff supporting children with SEND had, or are having?

What training have the staff supporting children with SEND had, or are having?

Staff receive any specific training that is needed for the children they care for. We will also work with parents/carers and any professionals already involved.

All staff have undertaken some in-house training on Autism.

How accessible is the early years setting environment? (indoors/outdoors)

How accessible is the early years setting environment? (indoors/outdoors)

All aspects of nursery are accessible. We are situated on the ground floor with ramps up to the main building. Our outdoor area is also very accessible.

How will the early years provision prepare and support my child(ren's) transition to their next educational establishment?

How will the early years provision prepare and support my child(ren's) transition to their next educational establishment?

All transitions are handled sensitively with a great deal of support given before the child leaves for their new setting. We will work closely with parents/carers and staff from the new setting. Meetings and visits will be arranged. A plan will be in place for staff from the new setting to visit nursery and also for the child to visit the new setting with their 'Key Person'

With permission, the 'Key Person' will take photographs of the new setting rooms, routines etc to make a book to help reassure the child.

We have two members of staff who help with transition, they work between two areas arranging visits etc  this ensures there is a member of staff that each child knows and we find this helps with the settling in period.
