Citizens Advice County Durham

Citizens Advice County Durham have nine offices across County Durham and offer many outreach sessions. We offer a variety of information and advice as well as debt advice over the telephone as well as continuing face to face interviews.

County Durham Foodbanks

Foodbanks in County Durham provide emergency food and support to local people in crisis.

Domestic abuse

Finchale Veterans Support Service

Finchale Veterans Support Service is for anyone who has served as a regular, or a reservist, in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces and are having difficulties moving on in civilian life.

Moving on

Moving On - Changing Futures North East supports separated families (parents and children) to reach agreements, reduce conflict and improve their communication. 

Little Troopers

Little Troopers is a registered charity supporting all children with parents serving in the British Armed Forces, regular or reserve. They provide fundamental resources, initiatives and events to ease and aid repeated separation periods aiming to keep parent and child connected and bonded even when miles apart.


Nepacs is a north east charity which aims to promote a positive future for prisoners, offenders and their relatives by supporting family ties at every stage of the criminal justice system.

Rainbow Children's Trust

Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity provide family centred care for children and young people with a life threatening or terminal illness. Emotional and practical support is offered within the family home and in hospital. Also available 24 hours a day for families in crisis. 

Reusing furniture and household items

If you're getting new furniture, or have unwanted furniture which you want to get rid of, find out about the county's furniture re-use schemes who reduce waste and provide support for local people who may be struggling to furnish their homes. 

Welfare Rights

Our Welfare Rights team can help with questions and problems on a wide range of social security benefit and tax credit issues. We offer services to the public, and to advisers and other organisations.

Free Safe and Wellbeing Visit

A Safe and Wellbeing Visit is a totally free service offered by County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service. They will arrange a mutually convenient appointment for trained Fire and Rescue Service staff to do a personalised fire hazard assessment of your home.

Durham Community Action provide support to communities across County Durham. They promote better health, support volunteering, enable enterprise and get voices heard. 

Free play and learn for 2 year olds

Help 4 teens

The Improving Progression of Young People Team (Help 4 Teens) has a number of statutory and strategic responsibilities on behalf of the council. Its key purpose is work with partners to ensure at all young people are able to progress onto suitable learning when they complete their statutory education.
